Bliain an Chreidimh – Our Patron Saints
Laochra an Chreidimh No.39 & 40.
Naomh Elizabeth Ann Seton – Bhí Elizabeth saibhir agus i óg i Meiriceá roimh an Réabhlóid Meiriceánach. D’fhás sí suas agus phós sí William Seton. Fuair athair William bás agus chaith Elizabeth aire a thabhairt do seachtar do dheartháracha agus do dheirfiúracha William. Ansin fuair William breoite agus theip ar an ngnó go dtí an Iodáil chun go dtiocfaidh feabhas ar shláinte Will ach fuair Will bocht bás. Bhí Elizabeth sásta glacadh le toil Dé anseo cé go raibh sé sin deacair. Tháinig suim aici sa chreideamh caitliceach agus
d-iompaigh sí ina caitliceach faid a bhí sí san Iodáil. Bhí an ghrá aici don Bhíobla – briathar Íosa agus briathar Dé. Nuair a chuaigh sí ar ais go Meiriceá thosaigh sí dílleachtlann do leanaí bochta gan tuismitheoirí agus bhí cáil uirthi mar bhean cineálta béasach, cneasta, cabhrach agus Chríostaí. Fiú agus Elizabeth breoite leis an eitinn (TB) choimeád sí ag obair ag déanamh an rud a theastaigh ó Dhia. Sa deireadh roimh di bás a fháil bhí dhá scoil agus dhá dhílleachtlann tógtha agus a rith aici agus a cairde. D’éist Elizabeth le glaoch ó Dhia chun bheith ina caitliceach agus chun obair a dhéanamh do na boicht in ainm Dhia. Chaith sí a saol ag tabhairt aire do dhaoine eile a bhí i dtrioblóid. Tá meas agam ar an obair ar fad a dhéan sí agus ba mhaith liom maitheas a dhéanamh do dhaoine eile cosúil le Elizabeth.

Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice
Today, May 5th is the feast of Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice the founder of the Christian Brothers. He was born in Callan, Co. Kilkenny in 1762. After his young wife’s early death, he sold his possessions and dedicated his life to the education of the poor. To advance the work, he gathered other like-minded men who took religious vows together to work for the Catholic education of boys. He is a model of patient and cheerful acceptance of the sufferings God sends, a true lay apostle and a deeply committed religious. Pray for his canonisation.

May Altar in Your Home
We invite every home to set up a simple May Altar during Our Lady’s Month. All children of this year’s Confirmation and Do This in Memory programmes were invited to create a Sacred Space at home. This would be a perfect setting for a May Altar by adding a statue / picture of Muire Máthair Dé and some fresh flowers / greenery from the field or garden.
Ó ‘Mhuire Mháthair, mo mhíle grá thú,
