Bliain an Chreidimh – Our Patron Saints
Laochra an Chreidimh No.42.
St. James, son of Zebedee was born in the first century in Bethsaida, Galilee. James journeyed further west than any of the other apostles. He came west as far as Spain and maybe Portugal which was the end of the known world at that time. Saint James was one of the twelve apostles and is the brother of John who was also an apostle. Saint James is the Patron Saint of Spain and according to legend, his remains were held in Santiago de Compostella in Galicia, Spain after he died in 44A.D. Saint James’ feast day is on the 25th of July.
St James has a special connection with Dingle. In the middle ages people left Dingle to go on pilgrimage to Compostella. They sailed by sailing ship to France or Spain and walked the rest of the way. The Parish Priest of Dingle could stamp your passport before you left. The only other place you could begin this pilgrimage in Ireland was at St. James’ Gate in Dublin. St. James’ Church is still used in Dingle today and there is a beautiful graveyard around it with graves from 1500 still marked. One day when James was walking on seashore with John and his father Jesus called them to come and follow him.
I have chosen the name James because my granddad’s name is Seamus, which is the Irish for James, he is always very nice to me. I have also chosen the name James because of my granduncle James, who has passed away now. James holds a very special meaning to me and that is why I have chosen the name.

Pentecost – Reflection
Do not let yourselves be guided
by the spirit of self-indulgence.
Look at the legacy self-indulgence produces:
bad temper, fighting, jealously, cruelty, meanness,
revenge, fornication, idolatry and drunkenness.
These are ugly things, and make life miserable.
Rather, let yourself be guided by the Spirit of God.
Look at the legacy the Spirit brings:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
These are beautiful things, and make life joyful.
They are a foretaste of the joy of heaven.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on us.
(Fr. Flor McCarthy SDB)
You are invited to study the art on display in our churches and prepared by our National School pupils. Please take special note of the Confirmation Tree in St. Mary’s Sanctuary symbolizing the 9 Fruits of the Holy Spirit as reflected upon so well by Fr. Flor McCarthy of Kilgarvan in the above machnamh.
Mary of Pentecost,
When the Church was still poor and
free as the wind of the Spirit.
Mary of Pentecost,
When the fire of the Spirit
Was the Church’s law.
Mary of Pentecost,
When the Twelve had nought to show
But the power of their witness.
Mary of Pentecost,
When the Church was all proclamation,
Proclamation of the Risen One.
(Dom Pedro Casaldaliga, Brazil)

Children’s Prayer before Communion
Lord Jesus, come to me.
Lord Jesus, give me your love.
Lord Jesus, come to me and give me yourself.
Lord Jesus, friend of children, come to me.
Lord Jesus you are my Lord and my God.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Children’s Prayer after Communion
Lord Jesus I love and adore you.
You are a special friend to me.
Welcome Lord Jesus, O welcome,
Thank you for coming to me.
Thank your, Lord Jesus, O thank you,
For giving yourself to me.
Make me strong to show your love
Where ever I may be.
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask you to stay.
Close by me forever and love me I pray.
Bless all of us children in your loving care,
And bring us to heaven to live with you there.
I’m ready now Lord Jesus,

At home and everywhere.

“Children Helping Children” Mission Appeal
Bishop Liam Ó Murchú and our Diocesan Mission Committee have decided to extend this appeal to all this year’s First Communicants. Children are encouraged to offer a donation towards the education and support of their peers in Africa just as our Confirmation candidates do every year. You are reminded that a donation of 20 cents can provide a good meal for 6 African children so we invite you to keep this act of charity and missionary outreach in mind.
We ask the Do This in Memory Parent Leaders to help collect and forward your cash gifts to the Kerry Diocesan Project Fund through our Dingle Parish Office.
The Field Outing to Kinard and Dingle Town will be led by Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society member Tim Collins this Sunday, May 19th. Meeting at the Wildlife and Seal Sanctuary, Lispole at 2:30pm. Fáilte roimh cách.
