Fáiltiú agus Stair
A Shoilse, Aird Easpaig Cathal de Brún, A Thiarna Easpaig, Réamoinn de Brún, a Aithreacha is a Phobal na Páirte fearaím fáilte ‘s fiche rómhaibh go léir le haghaidh ár gceiliúradh ar maidin.
Your Excellency, Archbishop Charles J. Brown, A Thiarna Easpaig, Dr. Ray Browne, Rev. Fathers and People of God at home and overseas you are all most welcome to this Easter Mass of Thanksgiving celebrating “150th Fé Bhláth” of our Parish Church of St. Mary’s. With the Old Testament writer we too give praise as we pray “I have loved the beauty of Thy house, the place where Thy glory dwells”.
Bishop David Moriarty blessed the foundation stone on lá ‘le Pádraig 1862 when Canon Daniel O’Sullivan and parishioners took the daring decision to replace the 1812 church built by Fr. James Kennedy. On Easter Sunday 1865 Bishop Moriarty blessed this magnificent House of God thanks to the generosity of many benefactors.
One hundred years later Canon Pádraig Ó Loingsigh oversaw a project of major re-ordering in line with Vatican II guidelines. Canon Diarmuid Ó Súilleabháin completed that modernisation in 1980. The history is told in “Treoraí agus Laochra an Chreidimh” our “Parish Directory and Patrons”. After Mass, we invite the Apostolic Nuncio to plant and bless a Copper Beech in the Parish Garden to commemorate the living Faith of our Parish Community. “Is Beannaithe Teach Dé”.
Laochra an Chreidimh II – Patrons
Naomh Séamus: Duine des na haspail ab ea Naomh Séamus agus cara mór le hÍosa ab ea é. Deartháir do Eoin ab ea é. Bhí sé níos sine ná Eoin. Cuimhnigh gurbh é Naomh Eoin a scríobh cuid den mBíobla.
Zebedee an t-ainm a bhí ag a athair. Iascaire ab ea Zebedee i Muir Galilee. B’iascairí iad Séamus agus Eoin ar dtús ach chuadar ag iascaireacht i gcóir rudaí eile tar éis bualadh le hÍosa. Cuireadh Séamus chun báis mar gheall ar a chreideamh. ‘Sé Naomh Séamus naomh phatrún na Spáinne. Tá cnámha le Naomh Séamus le fáil taobh thíos den Ardeaglais i Santiago de Compostela, sa Spáinn.
Tá séipéal Naomh Shéamais sa Daingean. Na blianta ó shin chuaigh a lán daoine ón Daingean go dtí Santiago de Compostela sa Spáinn ar oilithreacht. Chuaigh said ann ar bhád. Thóg an turas sin tamall deas agus bhí sé dainséarach. Is dócha gur stopadar i Cornwall agus sa Fhrainc ar an slí. Chuaigh an Jeanie Johnston ann cúpla blian ó shin agus bhí an Monsignor Ó Fiannachta ar bord le grúpa ón Daingean. Chuaigh mo mháistir ann anuraidh ar a rothar. D’fhágadar an Daingean go luath ar maidin agus chuadar ar bord loinge i gCorcaigh. Turas 1,100 míle a bhí i gceist. Deineann na céadta míle daoine an Camino gach bliain. Tosnaíonn a lán acu i mbaile beag i ndeisceart na Fraince darbh ainm St. Jean Pied de Port. Turas 500 míle atá i gceist.
Phioc mé an t-ainm Séamus toisc go raibh an t-ainm sin ar mo bheirt sheanathair. Tá duine acu caillte anois. Siad na siombailí atá ag Naomh Séamas ná bád, crois dhearg agus an scolb. (Oisín Scoil an Ghleanna)

4. Liturgy of the Eucharist.
‘Christ is Risen, Alleluia!’
